Rather, as explained by Mr Poh, the educators use fun-filled theme-based teachings alongside their own relevant teaching materials. They make an effort to bring life into the lessons taught, to ensure that the students’ interests are captured and that they get the most of their lessons!
The enrichment classes taught at MyGenius Tuition & Daycare Centre also serve as a scaffolding, so to speak, for students who are weak in any of the three languages offered. “For example, if a Primary 1 student finds Mandarin a struggle to cope with in school due to his non-Mandarin speaking background and insufficient or no Mandarin lessons during kindergarten, the Mandarin enrichment will definitely help to close the knowledge gap of said student, for it educates him from the very basics, until he reaches at the same level of the school’s lessons and is able to cope well, and ultimately experience the joy of learning,” Mr Tan patiently explained. Needless to say, the sign-ups for these enrichment classes are exceptionally high, as students and parents alike appreciate the value of these classes.
The centre’s teachers are all screened for suitability by ensuring that they are not only qualified for the job and hold valid teaching permits, but also, teaching young children has to be their first and main career choice. They undergo monthly self-upgrading, with training provided by the centre’s central quality control team to ensure that they always perform their best as teachers. “It is an important Key Performance Index of ours that teachers carry out their duties with optimal creativity and student engagement, and they are closely monitored on what they bring to the table in terms of teaching,” Mr Poh shared. The centre’s Quality Control team is also on site each month to observe and advise on the teachers’ methods of teaching.
MyGenius prides itself on its digital classrooms equipped with 75-inch smart boards which allow teachers to educate their class in interesting, creative, and interactive ways, with lots of multimedia learning content to boot. Plus, whatever the teachers write or show on the smartboard can be downloaded and used by their students.
MyGenius Tuition & Daycare Centre also provides dependable, licensed transportation for picking up students from nearby schools. What’s more, a teacher from the centre will also be present at the school to ensure that each student safely boards the bus together with their belongings. The menus, we learned, can not only go for two whole weeks without a single repetition of dishes, but they are also replaced with new menus regularly.
