Profile Description

White Lodge was borne in Singapore in 1999, with three students and two teachers and armed with the ambition to provide better early childhood education and support to parents and children alike. Since then, it has enrolled over 8,000 students from more than 30 nationalities to successfully grow into becoming one of the very first preschools in Singapore to recognise the value of creative education to preschool-aged children.

After two decades since inception, White Lodge has eight schools in Singapore and two in Malaysia. White Lodge Bangsar South and Mont Kiara offer a range of learning facilities for children aged 18 months to six-and-a-half years old. The White Lodge syllabus invites children to explore and learn creatively but at their own pace. Providing flexible two-, three- or five-day programmes, the preschool and childcare provide options for parents to suit their needs.

White Lodge offers a variety of programmes for children aged 18 months to six and a half years in an environment where it includes an orientation towards mastery and students are fundamentally motivated to demonstrate mastery rather than just good grades.

To help children fulfil their true potential, White Lodge also adopts a uniquely-designed educational programme to foster their growth and development into unique individuals. This is enhanced by a child-centred learning environment that facilitates active learning, involvement and discovery through a hands-on approach that equip them with the confidence, skills and abilities to succeed in school and beyond.

Our comprehensive curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) from the UK. We have integrated most up to date education practices and is grounded by our belief in the fundamentals of early childhood education. It incorporates the theories of High Scope, Reggio Emilia and Howard Gardner and is guided by a list of learning objectives.

This combination of influences ensures we provide a programme that encourages our children to be active learners, to acquire the skills of critical thinking and collaboration, and most importantly, to develop confidence in themselves.

Playgroup: The Elephant Herd
The Playgroup programme encourages children aged 18 months to 2 ½ years of age to explore their environment. Through theme-based, hands-on activities, they develop their language, social and gross motor skills. With a teacher-child ratio of 1:6, every child is fully supported at this stage.

Pre-Nursery: The Monkey Troop
Suitable for ages 2 ½ to 3 ½, children progress into Pre-Nursery based on their developmental age as they grow and develop at their own pace. Our main objectives are for them to develop their social and language skills and gain more confidence and independence.

Nursery: The Lion Pride
Placement in Nursery is based on the developmental age of the child. The ‘why’ questions have started for children ages 3 ½ to 4 ½ years, and they enjoy being amongst their peers. More challenging topics are introduced including Phonics and Math concepts.

Pre-Kindergarten: The Wolf Pack
Designed for children aged 4 ½ to 5 ½ years of age, the curriculum moves from play-based activities to learning activities. Engaging in projects that address social, environmental, historical and geographical issues, children will have the opportunity to develop their literacy and writing skills.

Kindergarten: The Whale School
We focus on preparing children for their next school placement with a PGIS (Proposed Goals for Individual Student) education plan with age-appropriate goals set in all learning areas. Our nurturing environment allows each child to develop at their own pace.

1. What do you like about White Lodge ? - curriculum, communication, teachers ?

I like the fact that we receive regular communication from the teachers and updates on the class activities on StoryPark. Ms Eugene, Ms Jess and Ms Kai Li have been very supportive in helping Madi settle into school. Madi loves her teachers and it's great to see her happy to head off to school in the mornings.

2. How has the school lived up to your expectations?

The school is living up to my expectations. I'm not sure how much time is dedicated to free play/socialisation, however, I would expect that to be a large part of the day for this age group. I would also like to see occasional free choice art activities where they are provided with materials to create their own art. :)

3. How long have your child attended the preschool and what class are they currently in?

Madi has attended pre-nursery at White Lodge since July 2019.

4. What were some of the reasons for choosing the school?

Convenience - it is located at The Waterfront which is directly across the road from us.
Facilities = I like that there is a large gym room and sandpit!
Languages - I like that Madi is exposed to Mandarin

5. How has the curriculum help your child prepare for the next transition-primary level ?

This isn't something we are thinking about yet. I do, however, like the fact she is learning Mandarin at White Lodge.

6. Special question for the child : what do you like best about school ?

"the sandpit, gym room... playing with my friends"
