Some preschools impress you with facilities. Others impress you with academic promises.
But every once in a while, you step into a school that makes you feel something:
calm, reassurance, trust.
That is the quiet magic of Small Wonder Malaysia, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI).
From the moment you walk in, the centre feels intentionally unhurried. Child-sized furniture, soft corners, inviting learning spaces, and a sense of warmth that immediately puts both children and parents at ease. This school is designed to honour childhood.
A Global Legacy with Heartfelt Local Roots
Small Wonderβs story began in Singapore in 1989 and has since grown into an award-winning early childhood education brand under the global Busy Bees Group, one of the worldβs most respected early years education networks. Today, Small Wonder operates across Southeast Asia, bringing together international best practices from Singapore and the UK with deep respect for local culture and community.
Established in Malaysia in 2009, Small Wonder Malaysia carries this legacy forward offering parents the confidence of a proven global system, while ensuring children feel deeply seen, heard, and supported in their own environment.
The TTDI centre, led by Centre Director Ms. Farah Liyana Abdullah, reflects this balance beautifully.
Leadership Rooted in Experience and Heart
With 16 years in the early childhood education industry, Ms. Farah brings both professional depth and emotional insight to her role. Holding a Diploma in Montessori Pedagogy and being PERMATA-certified, she has dedicated her career to understanding how children truly learn academically, emotionally and socially.
Her vision for Small Wonder TTDI is simple yet powerful:
A close-knit, safe, heart-centred environment where children feel secure like a second home.
Every corner of the school is thoughtfully planned to support independence, minimise accidents, and encourage curiosity. The environment itself becomes a silent teacher; calm, purposeful, and inviting.
Thoughtfully Blended Curriculum for the Modern Child
Small Wonderβs curriculum is one of its strongest differentiators. Rather than subscribing to a single philosophy, the school adopts a blended, research-backed approach that evolves with the child.
For younger children (below four), Montessori principles form the foundation with hands-on learning, independence, self-paced exploration, and respect for each childβs natural development. As children grow, the curriculum transitions into project-based and inquiry-based learning, inspired by Reggio Emilia, where children ask questions, investigate real-world topics, create, reflect, and express ideas.
All of this is carefully aligned with Malaysiaβs Kurikulum Prasekolah 2026 (KP2026) framework, ensuring children are prepared for school and life.
Here, learning is not about producing children who can mechanically read and write. Instead, the focus is on nurturing:
- Critical thinking
- Creativity
- Confidence in communication
- Collaboration
- Meaningful connection to real-life experiences
Academic readiness is thoughtfully balanced, particularly for five- and six-year-olds preparing for primary school. Cambridge-based books, structured literacy and numeracy (the 3Ms: Membaca (reading), Mengira (Counting), Menulis (Writing) and gentle academic reinforcement ensure children are well-prepared without sacrificing joy or curiosity.
Preparing Children for Primary School and Beyond
With Malaysia introducing the option of early entry into Standard One at age six, many parents worry about readiness. Small Wonder TTDI approaches this with clarity and compassion.
Rather than pushing rote academics, the school focuses first on building confidence, emotional readiness, and self-expression. Children are encouraged to share ideas, ask questions, solve problems, and think independently. These skills matter far more in long-term academic success.
As Ms. Farah puts it, a truly holistic education balances hands-on exploration with structured learning and prepares children to thrive in primary school.
Exceptional Teacher Quality and Continuous Development
At Small Wonder TTDI, teachers are chosen not just for qualifications, but for heart. All educators hold a minimum Diploma in Early Childhood Education, with Montessori-trained teachers for Montessori levels.
Beyond that, the centre invests heavily in ongoing professional development, including safeguarding, SOP compliance, Montessori refreshers, and continuous skills upgrading. The training is delivered both physically and online every year.
Teachers are encouraged to remain open-minded, reflective, and willing to unlearn outdated practices in favour of what truly benefits children.
Safety, Hygiene, and Nutrition Parents Can Trust
Safety and hygiene are embedded into daily routines. Child-sized sinks, toilets, and furniture ensure accessibility and reduce risks, while frequent handwashing is encouraged throughout the day.
Meals are cooked in-house, with menus approved by the Ministry of Health (KKM). All staff involved in food preparation are food-handling certified and vaccinated, offering parents peace of mind that their childβs nutrition is both wholesome and safe.
Strong Parent Partnerships and Transparent Communication
As a parent herself, Ms. Farah understands how important communication is.
Parents are seen as partners in the childβs journey. Therefore, Small Wonder TTDI practises open, transparent parent engagement through:
- A dedicated Busy Bees βBest Start in Lifeβ app for check-ins, updates, and messaging
- Personalised WhatsApp groups for each family
- Weekly photo and activity updates
- Regular parent events, project showcases, curriculum briefings, and celebrations
Learning Beyond the Classroom
To extend learning into the real world, Small Wonder TTDI organises two field trips a year, thoughtfully aligned with classroom themes. Whether itβs exploring transportation through a Putrajaya cruise or connecting classroom learning to real environments, these experiences help children see learning as something alive and meaningful.
Defining Success Through Memories that Last a Lifetime
When asked how she defines a successful child, Ms. Farahβs answer is deeply touching:
βA child who carries happy, lasting memories of their kindergarten years memories so meaningful they want to recreate the same experience for their own children one day.β
That, she believes, is the true legacy of early childhood education.
Small Wonder Malaysia, TTDI shapes confident learners, curious thinkers, and compassionate individuals one gentle, thoughtful day at a time. If youβre looking for a preschool that balances global excellence with heartfelt care, this small wonder is something big worth discovering.
