Shambala Kidz Leadership Pre-School (SKLPS), Sungai Long stands out with its evidence-based, comprehensive educational model designed to empower students with a strong foundation for a lifetime of engagement, leadership and success. Truly, success begins with the students themselves, from within. Students realize their full potential through an enriched preschool curriculum and substantial co-curricular programming, and graduate as a leader.
Here at Shambala, students aged 3 to 6 years are educated based on the National Standard Preschool Curriculum. Developmentally appropriate experiences allow students to extend their knowledge and understanding academically, as well as explore their areas of interests. The programmes are delivered through a thematic approach and integrated across key learning areas: Language (English, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese), Mathematics, Science, Moral, Art and Craft, Music and physical activities. Fridays are designated for hands-on exploration through an array of activities such as sand play, water play and brain boosting activities. The overall focus is on facilitating student’s social, cognitive and physiological development through active participatory learning, all while setting them up for future school readiness.
The curriculum works in concert with the key initiative of developing students as a whole, exposing them to leadership opportunities and allowing them to learn the essential soft skills needed for later success. The school’s culture encourages students to take personal responsibility and leadership roles wherever possible. Many public speaking opportunities are incorporated early on and often; students learn to speak in front of their peers and are given a stage to perform. Everything works together to help instill confidence, boost self-esteem, teach students to identify their strengths and weaknesses, foster creative problem-solving skills and increase their ability to work collaboratively with others.
Each student’s unique potential is nurtured within a dynamic learning environment with individual learning needs in mind. The atmosphere is well-appointed within a spacious, purpose-built facility that is perked up with lots of natural light. Within this idyllic setting are committed and experienced coaches who will guide students in a stimulating manner that engages their interests and encourages them to learn and think independently. Students experience a range of teaching and learning environments: whole class teaching and small group learning, coach-led and child-initiated activities, and lessons inside and outside the classroom. To enhance their learning, students attend regular educational outings, participate in sports days, perform in concerts and stay engaged in holiday programmes. After school hours are utilized to provide students with additional homework coaching, brain and fine motor development activities, and enrichment programmes (Little Chef and Little Painter).
SKLPS will continuously remain focused on providing such an environment to develop global leaders, including the coaches. Coaches attend monthly training and guidance, as well as yearly team building sessions. This keeps them inspired and informed to improve long-term performance and student learning outcomes.
