Not your ordinary nursery, this is a place where the seeds of leadership are planted in children as young as three months old. Established in January 2025, this is the first nursery under the well-established Hankidz brand, a name already trusted for over 13 years in Malaysia for its leadership-focused preschools and enrichment programmes.
Parents had long been asking whether Hankidz could extend its proven approach to even younger children, and the team responded. βWe wanted to nurture leaders not just from three or four years old, but right from the start, even from the baby stage,β explained Ms. Yan, Vice Principal of the Nursery. βBabies may seem too young, but they absorb so much. Every word, every touch, every experience shapes their identity.β
A Nursery with a Bigger Purpose
While most nurseries focus primarily on care, Hankidz LeaderSeed Nursery is designed with a larger vision: to build the foundation of character, independence, and confidence in toddlers so they grow into strong leaders of tomorrow. This mission aligns with the broader philosophy of Hankidz, which has always emphasized mindset, self-identity, and leadership above mere academics.
Ms. Yan puts it simply: βItβs not about whether a child scores an ‘A’ or a ‘B’ in their lifetime. What matters is whether they are learning to communicate, to manage their emotions, to be responsible, and to believe in themselves.β
Three Unique Practices that Set Hankidz Apart
What makes this nursery truly stand out are its three unique pillars of practice, each carefully designed to strengthen a childβs leadership mindset from infancy.
1. Words of Affirmation: Building Identity from Day One
Every morning begins with a ritual at the Affirmation Mirror. Babies are greeted warmly, held close, and guided to look at themselves in the mirror while teachers speak powerful affirmations such as: βYou are kind. You are brave. You are loved.β
βThis routine may look simple, but it builds the childβs identity and confidence from the very beginning,β shared Ms. Yan. βWhen a child hears positive words daily, they internalise them. They start to see themselves as capable and worthy.β
This practice reflects Hankidzβ belief that self-leadership begins with self-identity. By nurturing childrenβs confidence in this way, Hankidz lays the groundwork for strong communication skills and emotional intelligence later in life.
2. Baby-Led Weaning (BLW): Independence Through Everyday Habits
The second distinctive feature is the adoption of Baby-Led Weaning (BLW), a method rarely found in nurseries because of the mess it creates. At Hankidz, however, the priority is always the childβs development, not convenience.
Instead of spoon-feeding, babies from seven months are encouraged to feed themselves by grabbing food with their little hands, chewing even without teeth, and enjoying food at their own pace.
βYes, itβs messy, but it trains independence, fine motor skills, and even language development,β explained Ms. Yan. βChewing solid food activates the oral muscles, which are linked to stronger language skills later on. Plus, BLW children tend to be more independent and confident.β
3. Parent Support System: Empowering Families
The third pillar is a robust Parent Support System. Recognising that leadership training doesnβt stop at the nursery door, Hankidz equips parents with workshops, one-on-one coaching, and daily tips on how to reinforce the same principles at home.
For example, parents receive guidance on how to prepare BLW-friendly meals or handle common challenges like tantrums and clinginess. The nursery also keeps parents updated in real time through the LittleLives app and face-to-face communication at drop-off and pick-up.
βParenting is a journey we walk together,β said Ms. Yan. βWhen home and school are aligned, the child grows with consistency. We donβt just nurture the child, we coach the parents too.β
A Holistic, Hygienic, and Safe Environment
Beyond these three USPs, Hankidz ensures that every aspect of its nursery environment supports growth and safety. From tummy time and messy play to themed explorations of animals and nature, activities are hands-on and designed to stimulate curiosity. Hygiene is meticulously maintained, with toys and bottles sanitised in UV machines, and CCTV cameras placed across the premises for security. Meals are cooked in-house with a focus on fresh, healthy ingredients.
The teacher-child ratio is kept low (1:3 for infants and 1:5 for toddlers), and educators are carefully selected for their qualifications, experience, and certifications in childcare, psychology, CPR, and PERMATA training. Bi-weekly in-house training ensures continuous improvement.
Preparing Toddlers for Kindergarten and Beyond
By the time children graduate from Hankidz LeaderSeed Nursery, they are equipped with more than just basic knowledge. They leave with independence, communication skills, and a strong sense of self. These traits make their transition into preschool and beyond seamless. The Nursery aims to ensure that every child not only adapts to kindergarten smoothly but shines as a confident and independent learner.
The Bigger Vision
Hankidz is already well-recognised in Malaysia for collaborating with relevant ministries on leadership training. With LeaderSeed Nursery, the brand is expanding its mission to begin even earlier in a childβs journey.
βOur dream is to open more nurseries like this, so we can reach more parents and children,β Ms. Yan shared. βMany parents donβt know about BLW or the power of affirmations. We want to spread awareness and show that leadership can be nurtured from infancy.β
Final Thoughts
In an education landscape where academics often overshadow identity and soft skills, the Nursery stands out as a refreshing and forward-thinking option for parents. With its unique blend of daily affirmations, Baby-Led Weaning, and parent empowerment, this nursery is shaping future leaders while caring for their needs.
