The Global Indian International School, Kuala Lumpur (GIISKL) offers an award-winning preschool programme – Global Montessori Plus Programme – that uses multi-faceted learning to develop children holistically. The school provides the fundamentals of early learning up until high school, plus a myriad of learning experiences for children to practice essential 21st century skills.
Here are a number of reasons why GIISKL is the best choice:
The Global Montessori Plus Programme (GMP) is a much-esteemed curriculum that has won laurels for combining the best practices of early childhood programmes in the world. It rests on five solid pillars, detailed below, to give preschoolers a strong foundation in their student life. Apart from language and math literacy, children will excel in public speaking, develop higher sensitivity to the environment and their surroundings, and be ready to perform well in primary school.
The 5 Pillars of GMP
i. Excelerate Programme
This programme emphasises on giving children fluency in language through listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, as well as providing numeracy skills through maths in a fun and interesting manner. It uses an individualised approach to foster children to become fast and eager learners from a young age.
ii. Multi-Faceted Learning
Teachers recognise that every child is different and they seek to nurture the child’s unique potential. To help their intellectual capacities grow steadily, teachers adopt a Thematic Learning methodology to create interactive activities that captivate children’s interests. The wide variety of learning experiences provided will help nurture all-rounders.
iii. iPlay Programme
Play is an essential element of the preschool curriculum for children’s physical, social-emotional and cognitive development. Here at GIISKL, the right environment is carefully designed for children to interact and learn. Teachers give them the choice of what to play, how to play and whom to play with under thorough supervision. This well-thought approach is meant to encourage children to accumulate information and assimilate it which in turn inculcates in them the skills of independence, cooperation and management.
iv. iCare Programme
Sensitising children towards the community and the environment is another major component of the GMP programme. Through activities like gardening or charity drives, children are taught the universal values of compassion, kindness and giving. Interaction with community members and participation in bonding activities are also ways used to help them understand the importance of honesty, punctuality and integrity which are strong character-building foundations for their bright future.
v. Future-Ready Programme
This future-ready programme includes a dynamic, hands-on approach to learning Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). These subjects encourage creativity in children and polishes their mental capabilities of critical thinking, giving them an early start to understand the key disciplines of the 21st century.
GIISKL offers an academically rigorous and internationally-recognised Cambridge curriculum for students from Grades 1 to 11. Starting with the Cambridge Primary Programme (Key Stage 1 and 2) for students from Grades 1 to 6, the Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme (Key Stage 3) for Grade 7 to 9 students and the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education - Key Stage 4) for Grade 10 and 11 students, the comprehensive Cambridge programme allows students to follow a progressive path in their educational journey.
The Cambridge programme offered at GIISKL, is developed by the reputed CIE (Cambridge International Education) and is taught in more than 9000 schools across 160 countries worldwide. It allows students to study in an international curriculum and transition to another Cambridge or international school easily.
The programme is grouped into 4 Key stages. The subjects offered and the assessments followed at the end of the Key stages are outlined below:
The Cambridge Primary programme for young learners aged 5 to 11 years is used in primary schools around the world. GIISKL recognises that each child has a unique set of attributes and abilities and this programme helps develop young learners who are confident, responsible, innovative and engaged. The curriculum is flexible, including core subjects like English, Mathematics and Science along with additional subjects as part of the programme, with clear learning objectives.
The majority of learning takes place in the nurturing environment of the classroom, facilitated by the classroom teacher and assistant teachers. Specialist teachers support specialist subjects like Art, Music, ICT, Physical Education, Speech and Drama etc. The Cambridge Primary programme at GIISKL ensures that students have a balanced all-round development and are well-prepared for secondary school.
The Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme is specially crafted for 11 to 14 year old students and provides a strong foundation for students wanting to pursue the IGCSE curriculum in Grades 10 to 11. The Cambridge Lower Secondary Programme curriculum encourages learners to become confident in working with information and ideas, develops their problem solving and critical thinking skills while providing a robust foundation in core subjects like English, Maths, and Science.
Both the Cambridge Primary and Secondary programmes at GIISKL include Social Sciences like History and Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education, Global Perspectives, ICT, Speech and Drama classes and two different foreign language options (as a second and third language) for students.
Second language options include Malay (Bahasa Malaysia, which is the national language), Tamil, Hindi and French, while Mandarin is a third language subject for all students.
The Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is the world's most popular international curriculum for 14- to 16-year-olds. Offered in nearly 2,300 schools in over 130 countries worldwide, this internationally recognised programme is the equivalent of GCSE in the United Kingdom and the International GCE 'O' Level Examinations.
GIISKL offers the Cambridge IGCSE to students in Grades 10 and 11, it is also known as Key stage 4.
The learning culture begins with the outstanding teaching offered to the students. In order to achieve this, GIISKL is committed to providing the best ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers at the school, so that they can in turn provide rich, challenging and inspiring learning opportunities for students.
Information Communication Technology (ICT) is central to the learning process, and it is used extensively across all areas of the curriculum. Classroom-based learning along with a broad co-curricular programme outside the classroom ensures that the school provides a holistic education for children.
A reasonable amount of homework or home-based assignments is assigned depending on the child's age and grade. This is aimed at consolidating skills taught at school, allowing students to try out their conceptual learning through practical assignments and also encourages parents to play an active role in their child's education.
Students progress is assessed throughout the Key stages and also at the end of the Key stages, against standards set by the CIE, which aligns with the English National Curriculum. The continuous assessments ensure that the school has a very good understanding of each child's progress, abilities and for teachers to provide them with appropriate feedback so that their future needs are met.
In addition to regular classes and subjects offered as part of the Cambridge programme, GIISKL also offers students many opportunities to excel outside the classroom through an extensive CCA programme. This includes a wide variety of sporting, performing and creative arts initiatives. The CCA programme is also enriched with many inspiring trips, camps and visits throughout each academic year.
The GIISKL Cambridge programme is geared towards helping students achieve their full potential, academically, socially and emotionally. Their 9 GEMS framework, which is an award-winning and innovative method of imparting holistic education, allows them to take a dynamic and holistic approach to learning. It gives students the right opportunities and prepares them for a successful future.
Warm and patient teachers with a wealth of experience in early childhood education unfold the preschool curriculum methodically and gradually. Their individual attention and personal connection with every child go a long way in helping children achieve their potential to the fullest at the end of three years.
GIISKL fees are competitive compared to most international schools in the Klang Valley.
That’s not all, children who join kindergarten at GIISKL are all set for a versatile academic experience that seamlessly transitions to Grade 12. International curricula options like Cambridge and CBSE, and a scholarship programme, chart out an enriching learning experience for children and chisel them into well-rounded and academically brilliant individuals.
Global Indian International School has been regularly offering bigger opportunities beyond the curriculum for children to learn new skills in the school through various learning zones and the award-winning 9 GEMS holistic educational framework.
