When it comes to keeping our little ones safe, creating a clean and toxin-free environment is at the top of every parent's list. Babies and young children are particularly sensitive to environmental toxins, which makes it essential to choose the right products for their care. According to a 2022 World Health Organization (WHO) study, children under five are more exposed to pollutants, leading to potential health issues like respiratory problems and developmental delays.
ReadyCare Signature Launches Malaysia’s First USDA-Certified Bio-Based Baby Care Line
To address these concerns, ReadyCare Signature, Malaysia's pioneering brand in bio-based cleaning products, has launched a new Baby Care line. This line is all about providing parents with safe, eco-friendly choices for their little ones.
What’s exciting is that ReadyCare Signature is the first Malaysian brand to earn USDA bio-based certification. Their products are made from renewable, plant-based ingredients rather than harsh, fossil-based chemicals.
Yeoh Eng Foo, founder and managing director of ReadyCare, shares: "“According to WHO guidelines, children are more vulnerable to chemical exposure because their organs and immune systems are still developing. Our Baby Care line is designed with this in mind, providing a healthier, gentler cleaning experience that parents can trust.”
What Does Bio-Based Mean?
In simple terms, bio-based products are made from renewable materials like plants and marine sources, rather than fossil fuels. The USDA bio-based certification is a reliable marker that a product meets strict standards for sustainability and safety.
ReadyCare Signature’s Baby Care line not only carries this certification but is also vegan certified by the UK Vegan Society, ensuring that it’s both ethical and environmentally friendly.
The Baby Care line includes Baby Bottle & Utensil Cleaner, Baby Laundry Detergent, and Baby Sanitizer Spray—all carefully formulated with natural ingredients. These products are designed to be gentle on a baby’s delicate skin while still doing the job of keeping everything clean and safe.
Yeoh adds, "We’ve been very careful in selecting our ingredients. For instance, instead of using harsh chemicals, we chose natural soap bases and essential oils that are calming and reduce skin irritation. Our laundry detergent includes glycerine, which acts as a moisturiser, making it gentle enough for hand washing even the most sensitive fabrics."
Why Are Babies More at Risk?
During a conversation with experts at the ReadyCare Signature Baby Care launch, Dr. Amanda Elli, General Practitioner and Aesthetics in Prinz Medical Clinic & Prinz Giampapa Medisuite Anti-Ageing Center, explains: "Babies have extremely delicate skin, sometimes just over 1mm thick. Combine that with their curiosity to crawl and touch everything, and you can see why they’re more vulnerable to harmful chemicals. It’s important for parents to be mindful of what they use around the house, especially when it comes to cleaning products.”
(L-R) ReadyCare brand ambassador Mr. Goh Wee Ping, Mr. Yeoh Eng Foo, Dr Amanda Elli, and Ph. Chong Jia Yi during a conversation session highlighting the importance of understanding how environmental factors impact babies with sensitive skin.
Chong Jia Yi, a pharmacist and soon-to-be mom, also weighs in, sharing her approach to safe cleaning. "As a pharmacist, I know the risks associated with harsh chemicals, especially in cleaning products. Babies and pregnant women are more sensitive, which is why I always opt for natural, eco-friendly options. This not only helps prevent respiratory issues but also keeps my family safe while ensuring the house is clean."
Keeping Your Home Clean and Safe
Navigating the world of baby products can be tricky, especially with so many options labeled as “baby safe.” Dr. Amanda offers some advice: "Certain common ingredients, like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), can be too harsh for babies’ skin. A simple tip for parents is to look for certifications like USDA bio-based, vegan, and cruelty-free. These labels can give you peace of mind that the products have been rigorously tested and are safe for your little one."
Creating a clean environment for your baby isn’t just about the products you use—it’s also about how you use them. Dr. Amanda suggests keeping it simple: "Less is more. Always follow the instructions on cleaning products—using too much can leave harmful residues. Also, make sure your home is well-ventilated to help clear out any airborne toxins or viruses."
Jia Yi adds another layer of consideration: pets. "Just like babies, pets can’t tell us when they’re feeling unwell. This is why it’s important to choose products that are safe for everyone in the home. Do your research, check the labels, and make sure you’re choosing products that are truly safe and effective."
