Unikidsity International is a kindergarten and early childhood education centre with branches in Sering Ukay and Ampang Jaya. They offer quality learning programmes for kids ages 2 to 6. The preschool opened in 2010, founded by a husband-and-wife team who are both experienced educators.
Mr Siva and Ms Sharmila, the passionate founders, built Unikidsity International out of their love for kids and helping people succeed.
It is Unikidsity’s aim to provide students with a strong start in life; a foundation that allows them to grow and learn. This is why the centre focuses on developing well-rounded individuals. Kids here are taught a range of crucial academic, physical, and socioemotional skills that create curious and confident learners.
The preschool incorporates a blend of the Montessori method, national preschool curriculum, and developmentally appropriate practice—which offers kids the best of tailor-made, quality learning.
On top of that, the centre provides daily Mandarin classes, which is included in the curriculum for the five and six-year-olds. Kids planning to join a Chinese school after kindergarten are given extra help with their Mandarin if needed.
Unikidsity also provides Fardu Ain and Tulisan Jawi classes for muslim students.
The centre has distinct learning environments for kids of different ages. The younger kids have more open areas for them to play, move around and explore. On that other hand, older kids (ages 5 - 6) learn in a setting that is more similar to a traditional classroom.
Students here also have access to a library, where they can read books and relax.
Besides that, the premise has an outdoor area for kids to exercise and play in, with equipment like a big spring-free trampoline.
All educators at Unikidsity are qualified, with at least a diploma in teaching. The preschool has even hired teachers with Masters and PhD Degrees in education.
Furthermore, the founders of the preschool only choose teachers who have good language proficiency, as they recognise its value when it comes to teaching young children.
It is clear that Unikidsity sees the necessity of quality educators who keep improving, as they also provide continuous professional training for all their teachers.
Each child who enrols with Unikidsity is given a learning readiness assessment, which allows the centre to know more about his or her strengths and challenges. This enables teachers to not only understand each kid at a more personal level, but opens up opportunities to better help each child.
The strong relationships between the preschool and parents are also something to note. Clear, open communication helps parents become partners in their kids’ education. Each child, for example, has a communication book that serves as a way for teachers to keep parents up-to-date with students’ wellbeing and progress. The book contains important information such as what kids have been doing in classes, their appetite and general health.
The team at Unikidsity even suggests appropriate learning toys or materials that parents could get for kids—which allows students’ growth to be supported even at home.
Last but definitely not least, as part of their commitment to understanding kids better as individuals, Unikidisty maintains a low student-teacher ratio in their classes.
The centre has a list of events planned throughout the year, with something special every month. Unikidsity typically organises both an annual concert and a sports day every year, as they do not want kids to miss out on those experiences.
They also take children on field trips, celebrate all major festive events and invite parents over to the centre for gatherings such as Father’s and Mother’s Day. Once a year, Unikidsity sets up a petting zoo right on their premise; a popular event that is open to the public.
Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, Unikidsity has been very careful about containing the spread of diseases. Kids’ temperatures are checked every morning, and teachers look out for any symptoms of illness. The preschool does not take risks and are diligent about preventative measures, as it is their priority to create a safe and healthy environment for all their students.
