Calling all little superheroes! Put on your gear and throw on your capes because it’s time to unleash the superpowers hidden within! Superheroes Kidzland equips children with the knowledge and skills to go after what they dream of and be happy with their everyday lives.
It is the aim of the school to provide a fun and safe environment where children can learn, enjoy themselves and grow together with their friends. Teachers encourage children to be independent and creative through a child-focused curriculum – B.E.E.S. curriculum. It is an education system that embeds our national preschool syllabus and Singaporean early childhood principles to set goals for children’s learning. The framework also taps into the best practices of the Reggio Emilia, Waldorf and Montessori methods of education. Children are valued for their unique individual traits and because each child has distinct talents, skills and interests, teachers take responsibility to adjust the environment to respect the differences.
Children get to explore open-ended activities alongside a structured daily routine. There are areas, called learning centres, within the classroom that are set up with a specific focus that encourages children to participate in that domain of learning – Literacy/Writing, Maths, Science, Play and Block. These learning centres are fitted with a variety of materials that allow children to learn in the way they learn best and that is through play. By exploring and manipulating the materials, children learn by doing. For instance, when they lace beads in a pattern, they strengthen their hand-eye coordination; when they figure out the pattern, it stimulates their brains to think creatively.
The programme consists of many key elements that are designed to support children in reaching their full potential socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically. Teachers get children energised about learning through stories, music and an abundance of interactive activities. Everything they do is fun, yet meaningful, and all these experiences are building blocks that will prep children with a good start to formal learning in primary school. Children will be able to communicate well in four languages – English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil. They can follow instructions and still be confident to express themselves and participate in lessons. There are plenty of opportunities that encourage children to think critically, be creative, solve problems and develop holistically.
The comprehensive syllabus does not only prepare for academic success but also infuses essential skills and values to bring up children who are proactive and love learning. Additional factors such as nutrition, physical and mental health, and the school’s relationships with families are also given equal attention to ensure a positive educational journey for all.
Ms. Santi, the principal, strives to provide an environment that promotes inclusion, whereby children that come from various backgrounds and possess special abilities are given the opportunity to learn and grow together. The school offers additional support for children with autism and by partnering with professional therapists, autistic children have access to special education services while being able to experience a mainstream schooling environment. With Ms. Santi's experience, she leads and guides her team of teachers to better provide for children’s ever evolving educational needs and to inspire the next generation of superheroes.
