Roots & Wings prepares children for life. Teachers here believe in taking a well-balanced and holistic approach to learning. They aim to plant firm roots for children to be school-ready and literally help them grow wings to be life-ready. Learning is not constricted to one approach but rather tailored to suit each unique child’s abilities and needs. All is underpinned by the learning framework set by our Ministry of Education. Throughout the time spent here, children will develop a wide range of skills and build resilience. When they graduate and leave, they will be fully equipped with the creativity and intelligence needed in the world of tomorrow.
Established in 2016, Roots & Wings offers progressive educational programmes for children aged 3 months to 6 years old. Benchmarked against decades-old educational principles developed by Loris Malaguzzi - an approach to early childhood education which views the child as strong, capable and unique; rich with wonder and knowledge, Roots & Wings endeavours to provide high-quality Reggio-inspired education for children.
Roots & Wings is a strong believer that children are by default, capable of constructing their own learning. Focusing on social collaboration; working in groups where each individual child is an equal participant, they search out the knowledge through their own investigations, at their own pace.
In a Reggio-inspired setting, teachers aren't tasked to merely pour knowledge into the child but rather, to identify what their interests are, and then provide them with opportunities to explore these interests further. A typical classroom's curriculum at Roots & Wings is thus stemmed from the particular interests of children. Corresponding to 3 different age groups, namely Toddler Program (3 months - 2 years old), Roots Program (2 to 3 years old), STEM Program (3 - 4 years old), Leaf Program (4 - 5 years old) and Flower Program (5 - 6 years old) ; the following areas of learning are offered:

"All teachers must hold a professional qualification in Early Childhood Education or a related field. Once hired, they will be given the time to develop; to share and to train in order to meet the needs of an evolving audience. In accordance with the Reggio Emilia setting, teachers play a dual role at Roots & Wings; apart from teaching, their other role is to learn alongside children." said its principal. The average student-to-teacher ratio at Roots & Wings is 5 to 1.
Surrounded by a windbreak of trees, in the 2-storey brick bungalow on a large corner lot; Roots & Wings is nestled in a safe and quiet neighbourhood in Bukit Damansara. The interior of the school is organised into various learning areas; each filled with enriching, multi-sensory learning materials serving a different educational objective. Children are free to explore these learning areas; try new things - test out their ideas, and carry through with whatever their imaginations can conceive.
A built-in swimming pool in the front yard; and with easy access to a pool, swimming lesson is key to the preschool curriculum. Other facilities include Sandbox, Gym Room, Art Room, Rock Climbing Wall and Music Room. Breakfast and lunch are served daily and are prepared by the resident cook.
