MyGenius Tuition and After-School Care Centre stands as a testament to what happens when corporate expertise meets educational passion. Founded in 2017 by co-founders, Mr. Tan and Mr. Poh, this wasn’t just another education venture—it was a purposeful transition from corporate success to meaningful community impact.
“My co-founder and I decided to leave our corporate role to do something more meaningful—that we can give back to the society.” Mr. Tan explains with evident passion. This foundational philosophy permeates every aspect of the Kajang centre, creating an environment where learning transcends mere academic achievement.
The Kajang centre’s location opposite SJKC Yu Hua isn’t coincidental—it’s strategic brilliance. This prime positioning allows for seamless integration between school and after-school care, with teachers literally walking students across the street. The facility spans two units across the first and second floors, each classroom equipped with air conditioning and modern technology including smart boards, smart TVs, or projector systems.
“We set the centre with a spacious, well-designed and flexible concept for conducive learning,” Mr. Tan emphasises. The thoughtful design includes mini libraries, play areas, activity spaces, and well-equipped pantries, creating what he describes as “a second home” for children who spend significant hours in after-school care.
What sets MyGenius Kajang apart isn’t just quality education—it’s their exceptional Mandarin program. In an increasingly globalised world, this focus positions students for remarkable success. Mr. Tan proudly states. “About 30% of our students are coming from non-Chinese speaking background, they chose us also because of this and we have many success stories.”
This specialisation addresses a critical gap in Malaysia’s education landscape. As Mr. Tan observes, “The syllabus, in our opinion, is getting tougher and tougher. In the past, if a child goes to standard one without any Mandarin foundation, he or she can still catch up. But nowadays, all these basic learning actually starts at 4 years old in kindergarten.”
This philosophy extends to character development through practical leadership opportunities. Students rotate through roles as class monitors, cleanliness coordinators, and librarians. “It is through all these roles that the kids learn life skills, learn to lead, and learn how to take responsibility,” Mr. Tan notes. This innovative approach prepares students not just for academic success, but for life success.
The quality of education at MyGenius Kajang begins with exceptional teaching staff. “We focus on their teaching quality and we invest in our teaching resources heavily,” Mr. Tan emphasizes. “We start off by getting the right people in place—right people means with the right qualification, with the right passion.”
The centre maintains full MOE registration, ensuring adherence to stringent educational guidelines.
MyGenius Kajang’s commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom through their dedicated Central R&D team. This team continuously monitors changes to the SJKC syllabus and exam formats, ensuring teaching materials remain current and effective. “We keep track of all this and then they ensure our teaching materials and content are always up to date. We have our own books that we write for our teachers to use during tuition,” Mr. Tan explains.
The centre also maintains a Central Quality Control team that provides ongoing teacher training, monthly briefings, and classroom observations. This ensures consistency across all lessons at every centre.
Safety at MyGenius Kajang goes beyond basic requirements. The centre features multi-layered security systems with card-access doors, comprehensive CCTV coverage, and intercoms with camera systems. For student pickup, they’ve implemented a sophisticated QR code system requiring parental authorisation for alternative pickup arrangements.
Daily sanitisation has been standard practice since before COVID-19, demonstrating their commitment to health and safety. The centre operates from 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM, accommodating both morning and afternoon school sessions.
The Kajang centre offers comprehensive enrichment programs that extend learning beyond traditional academics.
“Once they are done with their tuition and homework in the evening while waiting for parents, instead of wasting time sitting around or watching TV, they get to engage in meaningful playing with their friends,” Mr. Tan says. Each board game serves specific learning objectives, developing collaboration, critical thinking, and mathematical skills
The centre’s food program reflects their attention to detail. Meals arrive daily from a central kitchen, featuring a three-week rotating menu using only fresh ingredients. The variety spans Asian and Western cuisines, ensuring nutritional balance and student satisfaction.
MyGenius Kajang maintains exceptional parent communication through multiple channels, building trust and ensuring parents remain active partners in their children’s educational journey. Communication features include:
With a 10-year blueprint guiding their expansion, MyGenius Kajang represents more than a single centre—it’s a model for educational excellence. “We hope to continue to expand our brand across Malaysia, bringing this brand to areas where such opportunities or services are not readily available,” Mr. Tan shares.
