Strong Early Response from Parents
Johor has emerged among the states with the highest number of registrations for six-year-olds entering Year One for the 2027 school session, according to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
Within two weeks of registration opening, nearly 50,000 applications were recorded nationwide, reflecting early parental confidence in the new intake option.
Confidence in the Education Blueprint
Speaking after an event in Muar, Johor was highlighted as a leading contributor to the numbers. Fadhlina said the strong response signals parents’ readiness to support reforms under the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2026-2035.
She noted that the early uptake allows the ministry to better understand demand patterns across states and schools.
Registration Remains Open
The registration period runs until March 31, though late applications will continue to be accepted to give families more time to decide what is best for their children.
The ministry estimates total registrations could reach up to 700,000 nationwide.
Preparing Schools and Teachers
To support the larger intake, the Education Ministry is finalising infrastructure planning and teacher recruitment. Preparations include adding new classes and appointing up to 20,000 teachers to ensure schools are ready.
Preschool as the Foundation
From next year, preschool education will begin at age five, while entry into Year One at age six will be optional. This approach is intended to strengthen early learning foundations while giving parents flexibility to decide based on their child’s readiness.
Year One registration for the 2027 academic session remains open until March 31.
