Eduwis Taman Mayang is a welcoming early learning centre that seeks a well-rounded, inspired education for children aged 2 to 6 years. The school takes responsibility to cultivate children’s individuality, and advance their academic and personal lifelong success. The love of learning starts within this warm, safe and nurturing environment.
The beginnings of the school were driven by the desire for a more child-centred education for the principal’s own children. It was a tale of ambition to maximise her children’s potential with teaching approaches that benefits the whole child, and experiences rooted in play-based and hands-on learning. It was also to provide opportunities to raise successful learners in the community. Until this day, Ms. Eunice Tee remains effectively engaged in continuous professional development to ensure students achieve success and teachers are guided to better their performance.
If it is not good enough for my own children, it is not good enough for other children.Ms. Eunice Tee, Principal of Eduwis Taman Mayang
Teachers at Eduwis are highly trained to connect elements of significant philosophies and theories in early education with their pedagogical approaches. Instructions are guided by Maria Montessori (living skills), Erik Erikson (psychosocial development), Lev Vygotsky (language and social skills), Confucius (moral and spiritual values), Reggio Emilia (creative learning), Jean Piaget (mental development [cognitive and critical thinking]), Shinichi Suzuki (music learning and appreciation), and Friedrich Froebel (natural environment). Within the framework, is a semi-child centred and teacher guided model that ensures every child loves learning, feels valued and has a place in the school.
The school believes children should expand their perspectives through thematic integrated experiences inside and outside the classroom. Each day will be one of fun and enjoyment as they engage in exciting hands-on activities and play-based learning that allow them to discover, explore and construct their own knowledge about the world around them. The programmes create strong foundations in the following areas of study:
This year, the school introduces a new Pre-nursery programme for children aged 4 years and below. The programme engages children through themes and topics that are relevant to their interests. Children are exposed to play-based learning activities such as playing with developmental toys to build their motor skills, singing to help strengthen language skills and group activities to foster social skills.
Class sizes are kept sufficiently small to allow more interaction and for teachers to be able to oversee each child’s progress. There is a supportive display of children’s work in the school. It shows children their work is valued, it guides teachers to look at children’s growth and it engages parents to share stories about children’s work.
Lessons introduce children to diverse forms of learning; children get to follow their interests and be exposed to co-curricular concepts in learning corners and through an array of activities such as role playing, reading, storytelling, singing and planting. This allows children to remain excited about their studies and develop a positive relationship with learning. Creating with recycled materials is a big part of the programme. It makes a sustainable resource for creative self-expression and sensorial exploration. From a young age, children get a full picture of how things are interconnected, all while gradually growing their intellectual, cognitive, social, emotional and physical abilities, and be well-prepared for primary school.
Learning extends to an extensive range of co-curriculars and annual activities that provide other outlets for teamwork, language development, self-confidence, self-esteem, collaboration and discovery. They include:
The atmosphere encourages children to learn the essential skills of everyday life including that of kindness, community, respect and manners. As learning transcends the classroom, the school ensures to include parents in as much of the educational journey as possible.
Clear, tangible plans are in place to ignite the personal potential of the children and create a foundation for lifelong skills as creative thinkers, resilient young leaders and compassionate global citizens. Delivered by a passionate and caring team, parents can be confident that you have exposed your child to the best learning and life opportunities at Eduwis Taman Mayang.
