Cutie Cottage Baby and Child Care Centre & Kindergarten in Damansara is the latest branch of the multi-award-winning early childhood care and education brand. The very first Cutie Cottage opened in 2010, by founder and director Yew Tian Tian.
This Green Nature Childcare Centre and Kindergarten in Damansara comes with a unit for premature infants and a post-confinement infant homecare service for mothers who have recently given birth.
About 10 years ago, Ms Yew saw a real need for a quality child care service in Malaysia that also advocated for breastfeeding. Being a working mother herself, she struggled to find a professionally trained baby sitter who could handle breast milk.
Ms Yew, who is a registered pharmacist in the United Kingdom and Malaysia, deeply understands the importance of quality standards when it comes to childcare. This is why she decided to establish Cutie Cottage, a centre that practices professionalism and transparency—while aiming to empower working parents.
Cutie Cottage seeks to nurture kids’ potential from a young age and give them the care and protection they need during these crucial years.
All children here are respected and seen as individuals who have unique potentials hidden within them. This is why they encourage their young children to explore the world around them through play and hands-on experiences.
At Cutie Cottage, monitoring children’s development and learning milestones is one of their strengths. The Cutie Cottage team collaborates closely with a well-established university, pediatric clinics, therapists and special education teachers, in an effort to assist students who require additional support.
In their infant, toddler, and kindergarten programme, children are equipped with the soft skills needed for a successful and happy life, and the hard skills that form the foundation for higher learning.
For the baby and tot programmes, kids are provided with a home-cooked menu consisting of premium fishes, ‘kampung’ egg, village chicken, wholemeal bread and fruits. They also serve organic vegetables, bean curd, millet and quinoa.
As for the kindergarten programme, Cutie Cottage outsources lunch from a qualified nutritionist who provides a balanced diet with a variety of cuisines. (There are no repeat meals in a given month!) Other than that, kids are given morning snacks and high tea that are prepared in-house.
Children’s safety is a top focus at Cutie Cottage. The centre conducts regular temperature checks, has a dedicated sick bay for kids, and ensures the best sanitization procedures for children’s health. Besides that, the centre is very careful about the furniture and equipment they choose. For example, Cutie Cottage does not have any baby bouncers or swings out of concern for kids’ safety. They also invest in international standard baby cots and high-quality wall paint that has anti-bacterial properties.
Moreover, to keep kids safe, the centre has trained and qualified nurses who are always on stand-by, even when kids are sleeping. The nurses and teachers at Cutie Cottage are trained in-house to provide professional childcare services that follow the best health practices.
One of Cutie Cottage’s main goals is to maintain transparency with parents. Parents are given daily updates about their child’s progress and online access to the centre’s CCTV footage. Ms Yew wants parents to feel at ease, knowing that their children are in safe hands.
The centre also provides opportunities for parental involvement through major school projects that students take part in. For instance, students in the kindergarten programme created a vertical garden, with plants that can be used for cooking. The herbs or vegetables they grow are then used to prepare food for Cutie Café, where parents can visit the café and purchase something off the menu. This not only creates a stronger bond between the child, centre, and parent, but also functions as a way to teach kids about entrepreneurship.
Last but not least, Cutie Cottage organises fun events such as their annual mini concert, where parents can really play a role in enjoyable activities with their little ones (like the ‘best dressed competition’ for babies and toddlers!).
