Protecting children from harm requires coordinated efforts from families, schools, communities and authorities, with public awareness translated into practical action, said leaders of the Children’s Protection Society Malaysia (CPSM).
CPSM president Datuk Seri Nazir Ariff stressed that child protection could not depend on a single organisation or institution, but required sustained commitment and shared responsibility to ensure children’s safety and access to support.
“Child protection cannot rest on the shoulders of one organisation or institution alone,” he said, calling for stronger protection systems and collective action.
The call was made at the two-day National Child Protection Leadership Conference 2026, organised by the CPSM Kuala Lumpur branch in collaboration with the Women Economic Forum (WEF) and G100 Global Meet 2026.
Held under the theme “The Best Interests of the Child”, the conference focuses on four pillars: Protect, Empower, Educate and Report.
Discussions cover family and community support, child safety in a changing world, safer schools and public spaces, and ways to improve reporting mechanisms, accountability and access to justice.
The conference aims to bring stakeholders together to examine how child protection efforts can be strengthened across different sectors and settings.
CPSM Kuala Lumpur branch chairman Tengku Datuk Asra Jehan said the collaboration with WEF and G100 Global Meet 2026 provided an opportunity to bring child protection into broader discussions on leadership, empowerment and nation-building.
Through the Safe Child, Strong Nation campaign, CPSM hopes to encourage more people to recognise their role in keeping children safe.
However, she emphasised that raising awareness must be followed by concrete steps to address weaknesses in the existing protection system.
The conference will continue with the National Child Protection Leadership Policy Lab, where participants will assess Malaysia’s current child protection framework, identify gaps and opportunities, and develop recommendations to inform future policy development.
The conference builds on CPSM’s Safe Child, Strong Nation campaign, launched in June to raise public awareness and encourage action on child protection.
By bringing stakeholders together to discuss practical improvements, the initiative seeks to strengthen cooperation and accountability in protecting children.
The discussions underscore the importance of ensuring that child protection is not only a shared commitment, but one supported by effective systems, accessible reporting channels and coordinated responses when children are at risk.
