Students with special educational needs, including autistic children, will receive increased financial support under Malaysia’s Budget 2027, with their monthly allowance rising from RM150 to RM200.
Tabling the budget in the Dewan Rakyat, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the increase would benefit 150,000 students nationwide. The monthly Special Education Needs Teaching Incentive for 20,000 special education teachers will also rise from RM250 to RM300.
To strengthen early education and support for autistic children, the government will build two new Permata Kurnia Centres in Melaka and Pahang. The centres will serve as dedicated hubs for training and guidance.
More than 130 new Tabika Tunas Istimewa classes will also be established in rural areas nationwide, with the aim of improving access to early intervention services for autistic children from low-income families.
These measures seek to expand support for children with special needs, particularly those who may face barriers to accessing early education and intervention services.
The government will upgrade 15 Community-Based Rehabilitation (PDK) premises into Specialised Therapy Centres, benefiting 20,000 registered individuals with Down syndrome.
In addition, specialised skills training will be provided to 3,000 new caregivers for persons with disabilities (OKU). The initiative aims to address caregiving needs and improve the quality of care services for people with disabilities nationwide.
The measures outlined in Budget 2027 cover financial assistance, early intervention, specialised therapy and caregiver training, strengthening support for children and individuals with disabilities and the families who care for them.
