A kindergarten teacher in Batu Pahat has been fined RM1,200 after admitting to pinching a four-year-old pupil, leaving visible bruises on the child’s arm.
The incident has drawn attention to the importance of emotional control and child safety in early childhood education settings, where young children depend on adults for care, protection, and guidance.
Teacher Pleads Guilty
Nurul Amira Natasya Mohd Nazri, 25, pleaded guilty at the Yong Peng Magistrates’ Court to voluntarily causing hurt to the child under her care.
During mitigation, she apologised through her lawyer, expressing remorse for her actions and asking for forgiveness for failing to control her emotions while educating children.
Magistrate Arun Noval Dass imposed a fine of RM1,200, with a one-month jail term in default. The teacher subsequently paid the fine.
The offence was committed at a kindergarten in Taman Sentang Jaya at around 10am on April 14.
Mother Discovered Bruises After School
According to court proceedings, the child’s mother noticed bruises on her daughter’s right arm when she picked her up from kindergarten at approximately 4pm on the same day.
When asked about the injuries, the child reportedly told her mother that she had been pinched by her teacher.
Concerned by the explanation, the mother lodged a police report at the Parit Sulong police station.
Investigation Confirmed Injuries
Police later arrested the teacher at the kindergarten to assist with investigations.
Investigations found that the child had been pinched twice on her right arm. Medical findings from Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail confirmed the injuries sustained by the child.
The case was prosecuted under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.
A Reminder of the Responsibility Educators Carry
For many parents, sending a child to preschool requires a great deal of trust. While incidents such as this remain uncommon, the case serves as a reminder of the responsibility educators carry in creating safe, nurturing environments where children can learn and grow without fear.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan.
