Introduction

St. John’s International School or SJIS is a private-funded International School that is an associate La Salle School in collaboration with the La Salle Brothers in Malaysia. The establishment of SJIS is in keeping with one of the priorities of the Lasallian Family in Malaysia to cater to the needs of young Malaysians, and also to link the school with a Lasallian organisation that has an outstanding and reputable long-history of delivering excellent education not only in Malaysia but in 82 countries worldwide.

SJIS presents a new milieu for students from different cultures and backgrounds to be nurtured in education, sports and extra-curricular activities excellence. We realise that a holistic education is also one that promotes values of respect for all and a sense of responsibility. Good discipline and strong student-faculty relationship are emphasised to create a mutual and respectful learning environment within the school.

SJIS is part of the excellent scholastic tradition that began with St. John’s Institution, Kuala Lumpur in 1904. SJIS shares not just the ethos but also the same location and part of the structure as St. John’s Institution’s noted arched edifice with a red and white brickwork facade. Set against one of the world’s oldest tropical rainforest enclaves, the Bukit Nenas Forest Reserve, the area is lush and tranquil as well while providing a view of the KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers.

Students and parents are aware and recognise the distinctive SJIS educational characteristics. Members of SJIS faculty are discerningly selected for their top academic qualifications and methodical competencies. They are chosen for their penchant in the scholastic care of students, and in the consistency in maintaining updated knowledge and practice. At SJIS, we envision a great learning experience for our students. Our focus on varied exposures and the well-balanced needs of students will set them on a trail blazing path in higher education studies glory and a bright future.

Since enrolling in SJIS, both my twin children in Year 4, have been very happy and their learning curve has improved significantly, They say that the teachers are friendly and helpful, and there is no fear of asking more questions or making mistakes. The teaching and learning environment in SJIS is very conducive and encourages my children to want to learn new ideas and concepts, They look forward to school everyday, to enjoy the company of friends and teachers. As a parent. I find that there is a good balance of activities to keep the children's interests in academics and also hone their skills in other areas such as arts and craft, science and math activities as well as drama. In terms 01 academics, there is a good balance between work to be completed in school and also some homework, / find this a good practice, as it enables the children to plan their time, be responsible [or their own homework and take pride in producing their own quality work. In addition, the positive affirmation from the teachers and headmistress goes a long way in building their level 01 confidence and character.

I am happy to share my children’s testimony, of being part of St John’s International School.

Both Karmen and Karrmel share my nostalgic feelings for St John’s, which was my alma mater for 12 years, since 1974 to 1986.

Besides the memories, St John’s taught me invaluable knowledge, that I could later carry into University and the work place.

Both children are very happy to be part of St John’s international, as they find the teachers very friendly and helpful.

Karmen said, “Even if I make mistakes, the teacher does not scold me and instead guides me to the right knowledge”

Karrmel said, “ I like it that teachers give us sufficient time to prepare for lessons and don’t catch us by surprise”.

In addition, they are both happy with the library, as they found nice children’s books to their liking and have developed better interest in reading.

Waiting in the library after school, until it’s time to go home, has inculcated an interest in reading in both children.

As twins, although they are in the same class, they find teachers are fair and give each of them opportunities to be themselves.

They are happy that the teachers do not compare between the sisters, which gives them confidence to grow as individuals.

Forwarded for your attention, please.

Thank you.
