The Little Tree House Preschool, located inside of Atria Shopping Gallery, has been around since 2015 and is still going strong. They aim to create an exciting and inspiring learning environment that encourages children to develop a love for learning and a love for life. The school is supported by HELP University Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Behavioural Science to further enrich each child’s learning experience. The Little Tree House is a collaboration between HELP International Corporation and OSK Ventures International Berhad.
The Little Tree House is a bright and spacious centre, with open areas for children to mingle around and have fun. The school adopts the International and Malaysian Preschool Curriculum (IPC) which gives focus on the academic needs of the children while also implementing various aspects of Montessori and thematic learning for a rounded and wholesome education. Here, many activities are designed to be hands on where children are encouraged to explore the world around them. The Little Tree House is an Exclusive License holders for Malaysia and Indonesia for IPC.
Besides having a strong curriculum, The Little Tree House also emphasizes on Reading. The centre uses the Oxford Reading Tree (ORT) programme. ORT is a well-established and popular reading scheme, which is highly successful at teaching children to read. The sets of books feature humour, rich language storylines that are engaging for early readers. It also offers decodable fiction and non-fiction stories, which allow children to learn phonics in a fun and systematic way, building the foundation for early reading success.
Children are grouped by age and lessons are planned to suit the needs of each age group. For example, lessons for younger children are specifically designed to help them gain confidence and become independent learners whilst for the older children, lessons are more focused on addressing all areas of development: social, emotional, physical, linguistic, and cognitive, and take control of their education by becoming an active learner. The team at The Little Tree House works hard to make sure that students will walk out of the school with a love for learning, ready for formal schooling and for whatever the future has in store.
The centre accepts children starting from the age of 2.5 up to 6 years old and offers full day and half day programmes at the centre. Half- day programmes start from 8.30 am up to 1.00 pm daily while full day programmes go up until 6.00 pm.
The Little Tree House offers a plethora of enrichment activities for their children including mandarin booster classes, arts & craft, and cookery. These enrichment classes are offered to children of all age groups as afternoon programmes to enhance their learning experience at the centre and allow for them to have their own learning experiences. Besides that, they also offer language enhancement programmes for Bahasa Malaysia, English and Mandarin that aims to enhance necessary skills required to master the language.
For a conducive environment for character building, the school is designed to have open spaces where children can run around and interact with one another with a spacious play area and an indoor gym to get their bodies busy and keep them on their toes. Closed spaces are also utilised at the centre as classrooms, especially for the older children, where they can focus on learning and get used to a formal school setting. Smart whiteboards are also used in class.
Most importantly, the centre provides a huge open space library where children can sit down and indulge in a variety of books provided. Books here are trilingual, so children are free to choose a book of their liking, and read to their heart’s content!
The first criteria that the centre looks out for when hiring teachers is their passion for early childhood education and children. Teachers are qualified as they must possess a minimum diploma in early childhood education or any other relevant qualification and are trained to have highly active movement to keep up with the energy levels of growing children. The Little Tree House also provides their educators with continuous on the job training and Montessori training.
One thing parents can be sure about is that The Little Tree House principal’s doors are always open so that parents can come in anytime for discussions. The centre realises the importance of fostering good relationships between the school and each family. Parents are updated on their child’s Learning Journey weekly – sent in via email every Monday. Updates are also done via social media, mainly Facebook, to ease parents and keep them in the loop.
The school heavily emphasises on safety and cleanliness of their students and their environment. The environment is sanitized daily. The centre also does a thorough physical check on each child to check for any illness or diseases such as Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease. CCTVs are installed throughout the whole premises and a code system is put in place so that not just anybody can come in. The centre and it’s surroundings are also heavily guarded. Security guards are always making rounds and keeping a close eye on the centre.
Sanitisation is also done daily by the teachers and temperatures are taken twice during class. Teachers here never fail to remind children to wash their hands regularly to keep high hygiene standards. Each child at the school has their own shelf, labelled with their name, where they can place all their belongings to minimise touching around the centre.
It's clear that The Little Tree House Preschool is a great place for children to grow and develop, with a nurturing and warm environment, friendly teachers who are dedicated to each child, and a strong curriculum. Each child will definitely walk out of the centre a leader with confidence and an everlasting love for learning.
