Centred in a township called Bandar Puteri in the heart of Puchong is the Bright Kids Centre that welcomes children aged 2–17, with its Kindergarten and Nursery programme accepting those between 2–6 years, Tuition and Day Care for 7–12 years, and Enrichment programme for 4–17 years. This kindergarten offers to prepare the children for adulthood by expanding their intellectual and emotional intelligence capacities. During the interview, Ms. Joanne Woon—the owner and principal of Bright Kids Puchong—illustrated the importance of nurturing the children’s interests in all aspects of their lives. Ms. Joanne is knowledgeable in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Diet and Nutrition, and Business Administration, has more than 10 years of experience in an MNC company, and another 10 more as a home tutor. Through her various experiences, especially in ECE, she asserted that childhood is critical in the intellectual development of a child, as it is the stage where the brain develops most quickly. Therefore, Bright Kids emphasises on developing the children’s thinking capacity and practical skills, all of which are the key 21st century skills.
Here, the educators endeavour untiringly to develop a strong foundation of skills vital for future learning, especially on language and mathematics. This is in line with Bright Kids’ contemporary educational philosophy and pedagogy that focus on building a healthy self-concept. According to Ms. Joanne, this concept can lay the groundwork for an enhanced learning experience. The owner of Bright Kids also highlighted that this centre is about providing the children with a balanced education—a key to academic and life achievement—that includes physical, cognitive, personality and ethic, as well as social and emotional development. Basically, these elements are all different aspects of one integrated practice called Total Learning.
Here, the thematic learning is adopted, which incorporates Mathematics, Science, Music, Art, Moral Education, and Language Skills. Ms. Joanne explained how their pedagogical approach can be “challenging but not stressful, consistent yet flexible.” What makes Bright Kids Kindergarten unique is that this centre integrates the latest Extrasensory Perception (ESP), Speed Reading, Speed Listening, and Multimedia Flash programmes into its curriculum. To adapt media literacy to various age groups, different programmes and activities have been built to suit the need of every child’s development. This centre ensures that all annual activities conducted are fun, hands-on, and can tackle essential early learning skills.

The Enrichment Programme falls on every Saturday, where the class gives students an amazing opportunity to experience what it is like to learn at Bright Kids Kindergarten. The programme includes Art and Craft, Taekwondo, Abacus and Mental Arithmetic, and AI Talent Class, all of which is designed to deepen the students’ knowledge and interests in diverse fields.
For instance, the AI Talent Class provides a platform for students to learn how to use the YouTube Movie Maker to create videos related to real industries that are corporated with this centre. The feedback from these industries will provide the students with useful insights on how to improve their educational outcomes. Moreover, students not only acquire the important soft skills mentioned, but for the group with the best movie award, they will be rewarded with either an internship or scholarship from the company. What’s fascinating about this programme is that every 3 months, Bright Kids Kindergarten will choose to collaborate with a different company to leverage the input of new elements, new energy, and fresh perspectives for these students. Last September–December 2019, this centre had collaborated with the Marketing Department of Lee Shun Hing, a vegetarian oyster sauce company. Through the Enrichment Programme, students were able to learn how to advertise the company’s various products. As for January–March 2020, Bright Kids Kindergarten will team up with Northern Light Studio to teach students on how to create and design a 3D animation character.
Another main highlight of this kindergarten is the Bright Kids Super ESP programme. Every person is either left-brained or right-brained. Through proper training process, the right part of the brain can be activated for enhancing a child’s ability to learn better. The right brain training can facilitate learning, thus equipping the children with vital life skills, such as better self-confidence and memory, improved creativity, and greater application skills on the overall. Ultimately, this will help them to become more confident individuals and excel in both academic and extracurricular activities through a more stimulating learning experience for the children’s whole brain development, giving them a super start in school and in life. The ideal age for right brain activation is for children aged 6–12 years. The Right Brain Education can certainly be an important teaching tool to unlocking the creative genius of your child in this 21st century!
